Graduate Job Options

Graduate Internships and Placements

Graduate internships and placements have become increasingly popular in recent years.

When well-planned and supported, they are a great way to:
  • Get hands on experience
  • Apply and develop a range of skills
  • Try out different career options
  • Build skills, experience and employability
  • Assume real responsibility in the workplace

We advertise lots of paid internships here on Gradsouthwest. You'll find them listed alongside our graduate jobs. In addition, there are a number of graduate internship and placement schemes operating through universities and other bodies.

In the south west, we recommend:
  • Unlocking Potential
  • University of Exeter Graduate Internship Programme
  • University of Gloucestershire Graduate Challenge
Internships have been hotly debated in recent times. We believe that graduate talent should be valued and that you should be paid for the work you do. This is why we only advertise internships that are paid at national minimum wage or more.

Graduate Recruitment Schemes

A graduate scheme or programme are specifically designed for recent graduates and are normally fixed term lasting for 2 years, some provide a fixed location while others work on a rotating location. There are an increasing number of graduates schemes and programmes available in the south west with smaller firms now also introducing these. Such schemes with the large multi national recruiters open to applications in September and usually close in December with a limited number of remaining places in January to March. Below are some examples of graduate recruiters in the south west offering such schemes:

Add an annual turnover of more than $12 billion to a rental and leasing fleet made up of more than one million vehicles spread across some 7,600 locations worldwide and you get Enterprise Rent-A-Car - a business that's grown into the largest car rental company in North America and arguably, the world.

Of course, bigger doesn't always mean better. There can be a downside to success, and it's usually the employees who end up bearing the brunt. But not at Enterprise.

The fact is, we owe our success to each and every one of our people, from senior managers to management trainees alike. We firmly believe in empowering each of them to make the decisions that will affect their work and their career. This philosophy, along with our uncompromising commitment to customers, is what has made Enterprise a genuine success story and a truly special place to work.

Just imagine the possibilities that come with joining a huge, internationally successful business with the type of personal, entrepreneurial approach which allows individuals to stand out. Our secret lies in the fact that we're divided up into thousands of smaller, local businesses. So when you take one of our trainee graduate jobs, you'll be learning how to run the business yourself. And how many organisations with a $12 billion turnover can say that?
