Case study

North Devon College

“Degree courses are not always focused enough for employers and can contain too much academic work which has already been learned in a real industry setting”
R. Barnes, North Devon College

We have been involved in developing HE programmes to be delivered to cohorts of students in the workplace. We are targeting employees who have achieved a level three in vocational programmes and wish to progress.

Tip

  • Choose a flexible delivery model (NVQ) and over teach it to develop students academic abilities

Pitfalls

  • Awarding bodies are focused on the systems and not the learning

Resources

  • Time: it takes time to make contact with and gain an understanding of the industry area with which you want to work
