Careers Support and Advice

Careers services offer a wealth of information, advice and resources and many are open to recent graduates. In most cases, you can visit your local careers service - it doesn't have to be the careers service where you studied. We strongly recommend that you ring first to check that you are eligible for support.

Each service operates slightly differently, but most careers services in the South West will offer the following services:

  • Free internet access
  • Reference materials - newspapers, books, journals, videos, dvd's etc
  • Directories and brochures of industry and employer related information
  • Practice test papers (numeracy, aptitude etc)
  • Advice leaflets (CV's, interview techniques etc)
  • Appointments with careers advisors (current students will take priority at busy times)
  • Skills training and workshops
  • Employer or sector presentations

Some careers services offer additional services such as advice by email, mentoring or support for entrepreneurs.

To find out more, contact your local careers service.
