Key development sectors
The South West Regional Development Agency (RDA) has defined eight priority sectors for the South West. These are:
- Advanced engineering
- Biomedical and healthcare
- Creative industries
- Environmental technologies
- Food and drink
- Information and communication technology
- Leisure and tourism
- Marine
These sectors are either:
1. Strategically important for the region and would benefit from some targeted assistance
2. Going through major transition and need assistance to meet the challenges of that change
3. Small at the moment, but offer real opportunity for future growth in the region
Two additional key sectors in the South West are the public sector - the largest employer in the region, and financial services which is particularly strong in the region.
