Mentoring

Mentoring is a partnership in which an experienced person (the mentor) shares their knowledge, experience and insights with a less experienced person (the mentee).

Mentoring can:

  • Help you identify your strengths and weaknesses so you can plan your development effectively
  • Give you a new perspective from someone with more experience
  • Develop your communication skills
  • Allow you to explore issues without fear of comeback
  • Help you to develop networks and identify opportunities
  • Increase your motivation

Some employers already offer mentoring opportunities. If yours doesn't, you could always ask to be assigned to a mentor.

Other sources include graduate placements, trade organisations or professional associations and the Princes Trust.
