Part time work

It’s estimated that 75% of Higher Education students undertake paid work during their courses.

Many students are finding that they can:

  • Undertake paid work which is directly relevent to their course and / or career aspirations
  • Complete work experience awards that will help promote them to employers

Most careers services or students’ unions have a job shop where part time jobs are advertised.

Some job shops advertise their jobs here on gradsouthwest, others on separate sites.

Even the most basic part time job can provide you with transferable skills that you will use throughout your working life.

Several Higher Education Institutions offer awards for part time work. These include the Independent Work Experience Module offered by Exeter, and the Earn and Learn Award offered by Plymouth. These help you identify and articulate the skills you have developed through part time work to potential employers.

For more information on developing your employability through part time work, contact your careers service or students’ union.
