Job Description

Are you up for a challenge this summer?

Are you looking for a role where you can really make a difference?

If you are ambitious, driven, and empathetic, this summer opportunity could be just what you are looking for.

An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Donkey Sanctuary. We are looking for an exceptional student to join us in our growing Data and GIS Team next summer.

The Donkey Sanctuary is one of the largest animal charities in the UK and the largest equine charity operating internationally in over 30 countries worldwide. The Donkey Sanctuary is working for a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering, and their contribution to humanity is fully valued. We will achieve this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.

The Data and GIS Team bring structured, concise methods to our data analysis workflows allowing senior managers to make operational decisions based on robust information presented in multiple formats. This can range from creating dashboards for medical records across our UK farms to presenting maps of emergency welfare assessment information for our global project work. The Data and GIS Team assists The Donkey Sanctuary in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to data collection, analysis and reporting.

The Operational Support Data & GIS Internship is a 6-week programme and is an opportunity for you to gain experience working with a dynamic, collaborative and creative team. It will provide deep insight into a career in data science and GIS, as well as the diverse operations of a large international charity. You will have genuine responsibility, be supported by a dedicated mentor, be given regular feedback, and make a positive contribution to the lives of donkeys and mules.

As an Operational Support Data & GIS Intern, you will provide support through various stages of data management, including collection, input and analysis. You will also help convert complex datasets into understandable GIS maps and infographics, to allow managers and directors to make the best decisions based on all of the available resources.
