Job Description

Working for Firetext, you will be involved in the development of all aspects of our web application, including developing new features, automating the provision of our infrastructure, designing database models, building APIs and server code (primarily in PHP).

You will also fix operational issues as they arise. You’ll report directly to FireText’s Chief Technology Officer and company directors.

You can be based from either of our offices (Reigate, Surrey or Penryn, Cornwall); remote working may be considered for the right candidate too. The role will occasionally involve some travel to our office locations.

This round of hiring represents an exciting new chapter, and we’re on the lookout for some great people to come on board and grow with us.

  • Development of new features, and maintenance of existing applications
  • Work with the team to design, program, and deliver software solutions using a variety of technologies and programming languages
  • Troubleshoot and fix operational issues as they arise
  • Continuous improvement of the systems and codebase
  • Ad-hoc internal support of operations

Essential Requirements:

  • Commercial Back-End Development Experience
  • Strong database skills
  • Experience with the LEMP stack and virtualisation
  • Great communication skills are a must. You’ll regularly be required to explain technical concepts to a varied audience ranging from fellow developers and directors to our customers.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to take ownership of tasks
  • Experience using Git
  • Firm understanding of software engineering principles and web architectures

  • Experience with Node.js and MongoDB
  • Experience of RabbitMQ
  • Experience of Elasticsearch
  • An understanding of network architecture
  • An interest in DevOps and Full-Stack development

In return, we offer:

  • Chance to develop your skills in new languages
  • The opportunity to help launch new products and features, as well as shape the company’s direction
  • Time set aside for training and personal development
  • A collaborative working environment where you can discuss and resolve coding issues with your peers
  • Work-life balance. There’s times we need to pull long days, but we’re in this for the long haul, so we don’t believe in doing this relentlessly
  • Opportunity for flexible and remote working

Company Description

We really care about what we do. We’re a lean and tight-knit team, and we’re always striving to make our service and end-products better. We never settle for ‘OK’, we regularly take on big challenges, and we set high expectations for the work we produce.

But work-life balance is important. There’s the odd time where an operational issue may be triggered during anti-social hours, but we generally keep to a (hard-working) 8-hour day. There’s huge flexibility in your working week. If you fancy a surf in the morning, then work late from home, this works with us :)
