University and College Career Guidance

The careers and employability teams at your university or college can usually help you with advice and guidance for up to three years after graduating. In some areas, you can even attend a different university to that you graduated from - but always check first.

Careers and employability teams work directly with graduate recruiters and operate at the cutting edge of their field. A visit to your careers service can really pay off.

Each careers service operates slightly differently, but all university careers services in the south west offer:

  • Information
  • Free internet access
  • Reference materials - newspapers, books, journals, videos, DVDs
  • Directories and brochures of industry and employer related information
  • Practice test papers (numeracy and aptitude etc.)
  • Advice leaflets (CVs, interview techniques etc.)
  • Careers consultancy
  • Drop in sessions and appointments to discuss all aspects of career planning and development
  • Training, events and presentations
  • Skills training and workshops
  • Recruiter or sector presentations
  • Some careers services also offer additional services such as advice by email, mentoring and support for entrepreneurs.
