Job Description

A Communications and Research Intern is required by Harbour Housing, the leading Supported Housing Homelessness Charity in Cornwall. This role involves writing funding applications, reports, research and other written work that fits within the strategic plan.  This is a 12-month GBP, initially.

Harbour Housing is the leading Supported Housing Homelessness Charity in Cornwall and we are pleased to be recruiting for a new post to develop our media, communications and research which all support the Charity’s development. 

Harbour Housing is no stranger to the media.  Our innovative approaches in housing homeless people has received local and national acclaim.  As our main media and communications worker, you will seek to understand our work and create a communications calendar to appropriately celebrate and share it, recognising and seeking out opportunities to expand our audience and networks.  You will be responsible for updating our website and social media pages and ensuring our key messages are represented. 

This role will be focused on the sustainability and development of the charity and so will support the business development and senior management team with funding applications, reports, research and other written work that fits within our strategic plan.  You will work with staff, residents, volunteers and external agencies, immersing yourself in everything we do with the view to make the most of our positive impact both internally and externally to the organisation and use our key messages to engage people with our work.

Level of Support

The post holder will report directly to and have daily line management from the director of operations but will also get professional support from the business communications consultant on a fortnightly basis

Training in appropriate digital platforms will be provided.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

You will possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to provide technical knowledge and advice across various areas of our services with focus on working with the more vulnerable in our community, including those living in supported housing with tenancy sustainment, domestic violence etc.

You will be at the sharp end dealing with people with complex needs including the management team so a sense of humour is required.

The right person will be the person who looks at this Job Description and can rewrite it with flair and compassion getting the message across to those that support what we do and to those that do not.

Other Requirements

Graduate of a UK university within the last 3 years.

Right to work in the UK for the duration of the internship.
