STEM Graduates into Business are pleased to be supporting Caritas Plymouth with the recruitment of a Data Analyst Graduate Intern. The internship is open to any recent graduate and is on a 3-month fixed-term basis.
The intern would use existing data sets to map vulnerability across the Diocese of Plymouth (Cornwall, Devon, Torbay, Plymouth and a large part of Dorset) and set that in the context of their school and parish network.
The successful applicant will need to:-
- have graduated with the last 3 years
- have strong analytical skills and an ability to work with and manipulate data using spreadsheets (Excel)
- Mapping skills would be an advantage (Power BI)
- Be able to work independently as there would be a large element of home working until social distancing rules are relaxed.
- have sympathy and respect for Christian social values
- have good written and spoken business English
This data would then be used by Caritas Plymouth to inform future plans and funding bids. The mapping exercise would map the 67 parishes and 39 school postcodes against the following data sets:-
- IMD data across all domains
- Loneliness Heat Maps
- Digital exclusion Heat Map
- Pupil premium data for each school
- Age demographics
- Ethnicity demographics
- Social action and digital data on each parish (where available)
The initial phase of the project would be in the form of a spreadsheet collating key data and enabling a comparison and ranking processes. If time permits, they would like the data transferred to a visual map using Power BI or another agreed mapping tool.
Caritas Plymouth focuses on putting Catholic Social Teaching into action across the Diocese of Plymouth and enabling people to reach out in the service of the most poor and vulnerable.
Caritas recognise that internships are very often used by people to gain the experience employers (from all sectors) are looking for and will do their best to provide a positive experience, offering an opportunity to develop new skills. Your assigned line manager will offer weekly one to one support, an exit interview and an individual evaluation. These are in addition to the support available to all staff including line management support and travel and subsistence expenses where required.

This role is being advertised as part of STEM Graduates into Business, a European Regional Development Funded project delivered by the University of Plymouth Careers Service. Its aim is to increase the number of paid internships available to recent graduates with small and medium sized enterprises based in Devon. Funded until spring 2021, the project should produce 80 internships with 80 separate employers across the county.
By providing support and funding to the SMEs, it is hoped that a cohort of graduate employing SMEs will be created which will continue to employ graduates beyond the life of the project.
