Job Description

A full-time intern is required for up to 5 months to support the work of Devon Safeguarding Adults Board (DSAB) This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to get involved with providing support to a number of high-profile pieces of work straddling across the agenda of a range of key local partners. The role will include supporting the development and management of plans and working across a range of initiatives designed to increase the public awareness of Safeguarding in Devon, including the development a new DSAB website. This position is initially offered for a 5-month period but could be extended subject to funding.

COMPANY INFORMATION: DSAB is the strategic lead body for safeguarding for the county of Devon, with an overriding objective to prevent and reduce the risk of significant harm to adults with care and support needs from abuse or other types of exploitation. Key statutory partners are – Devon County Council, NHS commissioners (CCGs) and the Police with wider representation from other agencies (NHS Providers, Healthwatch, Exeter Prison, Probation and the Community Rehabilitation Company).

The role will be hosted and facilitated by Devon County Council which is an upper tier authority providing a wide range of services to residents and businesses in the county of Devon. The County Council has a broad remit and a range of duties and responsibilities. Briefly our service areas include: support for the economy & enterprise; waste and recycling; adult social care and health; young people; children and families; environment and planning; transport and roads.

PURPOSE OF ROLE: To provide support to the Devon Safeguarding Adults Board communications work streams alongside potential wider Safeguarding work as directed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This post will support the development of plans, project management of work; communications and stakeholder relations; and meeting management and administration. This represents an excellent opportunity for a graduate to experience the development and delivery of local solutions to tackle key the issue of public awareness of Safeguarding across Devon. Further this provides good experience in working for a large employer; working across local and aspects of national Government agendas and developing and maintaining strong local partnerships. 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

*Supporting the development and delivery of a communications plan for Devon Safeguarding Adults Board

*Developing website content and managing information and communications in relation to some of the Board’s key priorities  

*Working with partners to help organise briefings and events.

*Providing support to Devon Safeguarding Adults Board by (as required): arranging meetings and taking minutes, attending meetings and actively contributing to support the implementation of plans.

*Carry out any other duties and projects as required by your Line Manager, commensurate with the level of the post.

ESSENTIAL CANDIDATE CRITERIA:

Qualifications

* Degree from a UK University within the last 3 years

Personal Qualities and Attributes

*Enthusiasm and interest in gaining an understanding of Safeguarding in Devon

*Commitment to interagency partnership and joint service development and ability to build purposeful working relationships across partner organisations

*Ability to demonstrate creative and innovative thinking and to successfully implement creative and innovative solutions around public communication and engagement (include development of websites, social media and publicity campaigns)

*Ability to multi-task and prioritise workloads, including resolving conflicting priorities

*Ability to analyse and interpret data (with support and training)

*Ability to travel

*Able to perform role with reasonable adjustments

*Commitment and conformance to DCC Customer Service Standards

*Commitment and conformance to DCC Equality Policy

Skills:

*Good verbal and written communication skills and an ability to explain complex issues in a simple manner

*Good note taking, attention to detail and interpretation skills

*Excellent IT skills, in particular familiarity with Microsoft software packages including experience of manipulating data in Excel

*Flexible, adaptable and good team working ethic

Other requirements

*Right to work in UK for the duration of the internship

*The appointment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check

DESIRABLE CANDIDATE CRITERIA:

*Experience of managing projects

*Experience of organising events

*Experience of using website content management systems

*Experience of using social media as a promotional and communications tool

*Knowledge of UK public/community safety landscape (desirable)
