Job Description

Ambitious, tech-savvy Graduate Finance Trainee needed by game-changing accountancy and business advisory firm based near Bristol/Bath.

About FD Works

FD Works is a different kind of accountancy firm. We’re using a combination of technology and business know-how to change the way aspirational small businesses think about their finances.

We’re a team of experienced accountants who’ve worked in large corporates and are now bringing our big-business knowledge and skills to ambitious small businesses.

FD Works’ client base covers everything from established businesses to high-tech start-ups who’ve just raised their first £million(s). Our role is to act as their ‘best friend in finance’, giving them the assurances they need that their finances are sorted and helping them look to the future success of their business. And when they’re ready to grow, we’re there to help them make those tough, business-critical decisions with real belief, drive and confidence.

Our own growth plans are ambitious. And we want you to be a part of those plans.

The Opportunity

We’re  looking for someone to support our business modelling function, turning Big Data into insight and usable numbers, while getting to meet clients, build relationships and learn how real businesses work.

You’ll learn every aspect of finance from bookkeeping and payroll, to strategy, planning and financial modelling. With our broad range of clients you’ll get a real insight into how a variety businesses operate and what it takes to help them succeed.

We’re growing at pace and, as you prove yourself, you’ll quickly gain increasing levels of experience, knowledge and responsibility.

We invest in our people. So we’ll sponsor you through gaining either your CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) or your ACA (Association of Chartered Accountants - awarded by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) qualification.

About You

At heart, you’ll be a problem solver. We’re looking for someone who’s brilliant at applying logic to solve complex problems. We’re not just considering people with a business degree, you may have specialised in Maths, Economics or Computer Science, but the most important thing we’re looking for is a proven ability to find solutions.

You’ll be a team player who has the drive and ambition to become a finance professional. A logical approach to problem solving, confidence with numbers and attention to detail will be essential skills. You’ll be a whizz with numbers and completely tech-savvy – as good with The Cloud as you are with your cash-flow forecasts. And you’ll have the confidence and ability to communicate your understanding, as you’ll be out and about working with clients – working with everyone in the business including the MD.

You’ll be a university graduate, ideally having gained some work experience either via an industrial or summer placement, with a minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent and strong A-Level grades. You’ll be completely computer literate and have a sound understanding of Microsoft Office, Google Apps and the growing ecosystem of cloud-based finance and business tools.
