Job Summary

Viper Innovation are looking for a graduate software engineer to join their team.  You will be involved in the development, testing and modification of software products working alongside a supportive and experienced team.

This role is part of the Graduate Business Partnership (GBP) Scheme and offers 37.5 hours per week on a permanent contract.  You can work remotely for up to two days per week, and you will have access to offices in Portishead.  You will be able to access a wide range of benefits to support your ongoing development, flexible working, free yoga classes and private healthcare.

Salary: £27,000 per annum

Role Description:

You will undertake the development, testing and modification of software products in support of the company’s research and development activities and commercial deliveries.  Produce technical documentation in accordance with company procedures. 

Specific Responsibilities of the Job:

  1. Develop software products and solutions to customer requirements.
  2. Generate software design documentation in accordance with company procedures, including (but not limited to) specifications, test procedures, block diagrams, schematics, manuals, Application Programming Interface (API) or any other documentation required for deliverables.
  3. Evaluate current and new software technologies as well as their potential benefits and use case applications through research and testing.
  4. Support the preparation and filing of patent disclosures/applications by identifying novel technology and writing the initial idea descriptions.
  5. Support Agile software development processes as part of the development team.
  6. Undertake testing, evaluation, modification and re-testing of products/solutions.
  7. Work to defined project specifications and timescales.
  8. Support general tendering and marketing activities, as and when required.
  9. Support and assist in testing and commissioning, both on-site and off-site.
  10. Work to relevant international standards and best practice guidelines as required.
  11. Undertake engineering consultancy work in accordance with company and client requirements.
  12. Review development work as part of sprint iterations.
  13. Work cross-functionally with other departments to co-ordinate the transfer of new products/systems into commercial solutions.
  14. At all times manage and lead yourself to ensure the delivery of your role and all aspects thereof to the highest standard.
  15. Be responsible for developing and maintaining your own learning and development plan for continuous skills growth in all relevant areas, not just in relation to your area within the business

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Hons Degree, BTEC or HND/HNC in an appropriate technical or operational discipline and/or proven work experience equivalent to the skills or knowledge required for the role.

Essential:

  • Creating software requirements and design from business/user requirements. 
  • Delivering software functionality, deployment, migration and supporting an application in production.

Graduate Business Partnership (GBP) Scheme Requirements

  • To undertake a graduate role through the GBP scheme, you must have either achieved your degree or be in your final year at any UK-based university.
  • If you are in your final year, your working hours may be reduced to 15 hours per week (for undergraduates) or 6 hours per week (for postgraduates) to ensure you have the capacity to successfully complete your degree. More hours can be completed if your academic agrees and provides written confirmation.
  • If you do not pass your degree, the GBP role will end early.
  • You must have graduated in the UK within the last 3 years of your most recent degree (we will consider extenuating circumstances of potential applicants that may have prevented them from undertaking a graduate role within 3 years of graduation).
