It's not all fireworks

The jobs market is problematic currently, hiring intentions are generally down, but there are still persistent hiring difficulties.

The British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) Insight Unit’s latest Quarterly Recruitment Outlook (QRO) reveals hiring intentions have dropped to their lowest levels since the depths of the pandemic.

Of the firms who tried to hire in Q3, 76% reported difficulties, compared with 66% in the first three months of the year.

For graduate recruiters and graduates though the picture is of a highly competitive market. The ISE (representing the largest graduate recruiters) found competition had reached a record high, with 140 applications for every graduate role.

Graduate vacancies are slightly up compared to last year.
