Where has 2024 gone?!

I can't believe I am here writing the December newsletter. The last hours in the office are now in darkness as we head towards the longest night.

At this time of year people tend to suffer more with their mental health and in this newsletter we make a plea to employers to help applicants by being kind. We also provide links to support for staff.

Finally for 2024 we'd like to thank all those amazing companies out there who have advertised with us this year - helping retain graduate talent in our very special region. We couldn't do it without you!

Christmas Opening

As an on-line platform the website will be available throughout the whole Christmas period. We know students and graduates use it to browse and apply during their holidays.

However, the office will be closed from the 20 December - 6 January.

We wish all our recruiters a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Did you know?

> 1 in 3(29%) of graduates and apprentices leave within three years

> Typical cost of a graduate hire is >£3,200 per person

> Lack of ROI data, EDI barriers and critical skills gaps were also highlighted as top challenges

A plea to recruiters... treat applicants with kindness

Recently we received this plea from a concerned parent:

"I would just like to make a general remark about the companies who use your platform to recruit staff.2 of my sons with degrees have applied for numerous positions with different companies and get no response.

It would be nice if you made a stipulation that every applicant at least get a cursory acknowledgment of their application and better still some feedback. Allowing companies to ignore people is wrong. In this delicate time of mental health and feelings of inadequacy or desperation, which is often repressed in males and can lead to self harm, I would think more should be done to help young people feel seen.

Maybe some encouragement from your platform would spark better practices all round."

Now we can't mandate acknowledgement and feedback, but we can encourage our recruiters to do better! Be kind to applicants.

And if you need a reason to do so other than being kind... remember applicants are potential customers, future employees, brand ambassadors or your biggest critics.

Are you looking to grow your team?

As well as looking after our candidates, we also need to support our staff...
