Job Description

Two graduates are required within the Student Employability & Academic Success team at the University, Penryn campus, Cornwall. The roles will provide administrative support covering all aspects of employability and in particular work placements across all colleges. These are 23 month GBP roles.

Two full-time Employability and Work Placement Support Assistants are required within Student Employability and Academic Success (SEAS) to assist with identifying work placement opportunities, handling all work placement paperwork and providing administrative and event support to SEAS colleagues across all colleges on our Penryn campus. These positions will be available on a 23 month basis and are part of the GBP internship scheme.

It is becoming increasingly important that we fully support our students to prepare themselves for the job market upon graduation. There is a clear relationship between the ability of graduates to find suitable employment and engagement with work-based opportunities during the course of their studies. This role will administer the process of placing students with employers on WBL modules and professional placement years, overseeing all of the relevant placement paperwork. The post will also support the identification of work placement opportunities with both local and national employers. The role will provide support to SEAS Employability colleagues with various employability related operational tasks, including event management and Professional Pathway programmes.

The main duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

  1. Maintain and update work placement processes that support students in gaining work placements as well as completing the required paperwork.
  2. Assist with the despatch, collation and completion of work placement paperwork to ensure that placements  meet relevant health and safety and duty of care requirements. Provide administrative support for risk assessments as required within University practice.
  3. Work closely with the SEAS Work Placement Co-ordinators as well as key Employability staff  to provide administrative/logistical support for employability activities, events and meetings.
  4. Assist with the preparation of marketing materials, college newsletters and presentations aimed at students across Colleges to promote employability events, projects and placements. 
  5. Assist with the maintenance and updating of College web and ELE pages relating to employability, e.g. ensuring information is current and accurate.
  6. Liaise with alumni and employers who are delivering events, making enquiries, or visiting the University, ensuring you are responding in a professional and engaging manner that represents the College and the University. 
  7. Maintain systems so correspondence and activities with employers can be clearly tracked and monitored.
  8. Assist with the compilation of reports of employability, project and placement activity.
  9. Support the planning, organisation and delivery of employability events at College-level and University-level, as appropriate.
  10. Act as a champion for employability and work placements across the University and promote the benefits to staff and students. Attend appropriate meetings with colleagues in SEAS and relevant college teams.
  11. Carry out any other duties and projects as required by your Line Manager, commensurate with the level of the post.


  • Maintenance and appropriate development of an efficient and effective administrative process for work placements that meets the requirements of University guidelines
  • A demonstrable increase in the number of relevant placement opportunities available to current students across the University, and an associated increase in the uptake of these placements.
  • Increased awareness and engagement amongst current students regarding the employability opportunities available to them across the University.
  • The successful GBP intern will benefit by augmenting a range of transferrable skills that will better fit them for work in a wide range of careers including teaching, event management, administration, marketing and the charity sector.

Essential Candidate Criteria:


  • A degree from a UK university, achieved within the past 3 years.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, and an ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Inquisitive and analytical style with an attention to detail.
  • Organised and methodical approach.
  • Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Able to present a professional image of the University of Exeter.


  • Ability to prioritise work applying a flexible/ responsive approach to work demands.
  • Previous experience of sourcing, analysing and providing relevant datasets to an end user
  • Evidence of past networking.

Specialist Knowledge

  • Experienced user of MS Office and in particular Excel.
  • An understanding of event management

Other Requirements

  • Right to work in UK for the duration of the internship
  • Occasional evening and weekend work and travel to the Penryn Campus as required
