5 quick and easy steps to career success

If you’re graduating this year, things are about to get busy. So busy that it’s tempting to put off your career planning until the summer. However, a little time invested now will really help you find the right job.

As a minimum…

1. Consider your options. We find that there’s a big gap between graduate expectations and reality. Check out this excellent Ted Talk to ensure you’re making good choices that are right for you.
2. Do a little research. Take a few minutes to register for job alerts with graduate job sites so that you get a steady trickle of vacancies that might suit you. It will give you an idea of which companies are recruiting and what are they asking for. 3. Clean up your social media. Most companies will check out your online profile so follow our social media tips to show your best you.
4. Check in with your careers service. They are absolutely your best resource and we’re always astonished at how many students overlook this. Start by checking out the careers and employability service web pages today!
5. Apply, apply, apply! Inevitably, competition for the big London graduate schemes is fierce. However, this isn’t always the case for many high-quality graduate jobs with smaller companies outside of the capital. If you meet most of the criteria and can demonstrate a good attitude and a willingness to learn, you stand a really good chance of getting to interview. We know of Times Top 100 Companies in the south west that struggle to recruit graduates so don’t be shy, apply, apply, apply!
