Graduate jobs near me

Wednesday, October 11, 2017

It is clear from recent data that graduates really do want to stay local for their careers if they can. For example, the University of Bristol have done a study that shows 46% of Bristol students want to stay in the city after graduation; and almost 20% of their recent graduates who are working in the UK are actually based in Bristol 6 months after graduation.

Gradsouthwest can support this desire by making graduate jobs in the South West more visible to students – assisting those that want to live and work in the South West find graduate level work – whether they stayed in the region to study, or could be attracted to work here from elsewhere.

Recent data analysing the geographical mobility of students and graduates between their home, study and employer locations shows that 66% of those that grew up in the South West are in employment here after graduation: 46% of students who grew up and studied in the South West stay in employment here; with a further 20% studying elsewhere but returning to work. However, 34% of those that grew up in the region do not end up working here.

Looking more locally, here are the figures:

Comparing the data nationally (see table below), more students grow up, study and then stay to work than is the case nationally – so we have a very loyal population. But once a student has left the region – they are less likely to come back.

Gradsouthwest continue to support graduate retention and attraction; and welcome partners to support us in this work. When a student wants a job we want them to google ‘graduate jobs near me’ and stay in the South West.
