A Plan for Jobs - Kickstart Scheme

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, presented his ‘Plan for Jobs’ to Parliament on Wednesday 8 July 2020, to outline how the government will boost job creation in the UK. The plan includes anew £2 billion Kickstart Scheme. It will be launched to create hundreds of thousands of new, fully subsidised jobs for young people across the country. Those aged 16-24, claiming Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment, will be eligible. Funding available for each six-month job placement will cover 100% of the National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week – and employers will be able to top this wage up.

As we learn more we'll let our employers know as new graduates often fall within this age band.

Is graduate recruitment recovering?

We saw a 90% drop in recruitment adverts for graduates in April at the height of the coronavirus peak. We are now back to 50% of what we had pre-lockdown.

So graduate recruitment is returning, albeit slowly.

If you are looking to hire a graduate, do get in touch - we have free adverts and support for SMEs in Devon, Dorset and Somerset - see separate article below - and can offer great value packages to everyone else.

    Office for Talent

The government has created a new ‘Office for Talent’ to make it easier for scientists, researchers and innovators to settle in the UK.

As a graduate recruiter this makes the international talent pool more easily open to you to recruit from.
